Protest against rising fuel prices, GST: Bharat Bandh
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will on 26th February 2021 (Friday) observe Bharat Bandh against, inter alia, rising fuel prices, the new e-way bill, Goods and Services Tax (GST).
In response to the CAIT’s involve bharat bandh tomorrow, around 40,000 trade associations have decided to increase their support.
The All India Transport Welfare Association (AITWA) - the apex body of the organised road transportation companies – also will support tomorrow’s bandh and hold a chakka jam (road blockade).
The CAIT also as AITWA seek scrapping of the new e-way bill or eliminating certain rules from it. The e-way bill system has been introduced nation-wide for inter-state movement of products with effect from 1st April 2018.
They have also appealed to the govt to withdraw heavy taxes on fuel prices and make it uniform across India.
"All state level-transport associations have confirmed their support to AITWA during this one-day non-operation of transport in protest of the fuel price hike and scrapping of latest E-way bill laws introduced by Government of India. the character of the movement is to reject booking and movement of all E-Way Bill oriented goods for at some point . All transport companies are asked to park their vehicles between 6 am to eight pm as a symbolic protest. All transport godowns will display the protest banners. All customers are going to be approached by transport companies to not book or load any goods on February 26, 2021," said AITWA national president Mahendra Arya.
As per reports, the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) and Bhaichara All India Truck Operator Welfare Association (BAITOWA) won't participate within the 26 Feb strike.
The AITWA has asked transport companies to park their vehicles between 6 am and eight pm. Hence, private transport is probably going to be affected tomorrow.
Commercial markets across the country will remain shut tomorrow.
Booking, also because the movement of Bill-oriented goods, are going to be affected.
Dharnas will happen across the country in over 1,500 towns and cities across states.
No traders will log in to the GST portal so as to register their protest.
Associations of chartered accountants and tax advocates have backed the strike.
