So for another Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day, I want to appreciate @krixelangel and the amazing Good Left Undone, which has honestly been the highlight of 2021 for me so far. For me, it’s like a hug in the form of fiction. Each time a new chapter is released, I just feel good because I know I can put my trust in Krixel to deliver a fantastic story.
If I can convince anyone to read a fic, this is the fic I’d suggest.
Yes, it’s got beautiful prose, but it’s also very visual--I can see it playing out in my head and it makes reading the story a pleasure. It’s also atmospheric in a way that just ratchets up the tension, and the dialogue kills me. It’s got everything I ever wanted in a fanfic. We’ve got found family; action and guns, a slow burn romance with conflict; male friendship and brotherly bonds; and while yes, it’s gritty and there’s violence, it’s a mafia AU of course, but I have seriously laughed out loud so many times during a chapter due to comedic timing of some well delivered lines or dialogue exchanges.
The basic plot (because there are layers here) is the Blitzkrieg Boys are men who were forged in a bloody and violent mafia, but they got away and have formed a new life in their refurbished warehouse. And then Tala fucks it up.
There’s reasons. They’re good reasons.
He goes digging where he shouldn’t and brings the violence to their back door (literally) and accidentally on purpose kidnaps a random barista. Suddenly Bryan is Russian Rambo’ing outside the warehouse and Ian is chilling on rooftops, Kai is literally functioning on coffee at this point and Spencer’s making two lasagnas (this actually might be a normal thing he does, but you know, it’s still extreme). And in the midst of this is Trey, the unfortunate barista with a grim past who is the definition of wrong place, wrong time.
Krixel writes good Blitz Boys. I use this as a tag on Tumblr because it’s true. This is a fic that’s dedicated to the boys and their relationship with each other. The chemistry she creates between all of them is fantastic. Tala and Kai are clearly best friends and can call each other on their bullshit, but also their bond as brothers is deep, they will ride or die for each other. This song is a fantastic representation of their friendship in this fic. And while these two are beautifully written and are the key players in this story, Bryan, Ian and Spencer are not overlooked in any way. The interactions they all have is just *chefs kiss*. The battle scene in chapter two (movie worthy!) and the dinner scene in chapter three, honestly amazing examples of how these boys care!
Also BryanxMariam representation!!
I know having an OC can be off putting to readers, but Trey is so damn good. There’s definitely more to her than meets the eye, she’s had her own pain in life but what I love about this story is how subtly that’s teased. As a reader, I’m not being hit over the head with “oh she’s had such a hard life”, instead it’s these little throw away lines that have me going alert in the middle of a paragraph and piecing together these thoughts Trey’s had. There’s darkness in her past for sure, and she’s definitely having to adjust to these wild circumstances where she’s now captive in the B-Boys penthouse extravaganza but she’s got spine, and seeing glimpses of her sense of humour and will to survive, just has me rooting so hard for her.
And the final aspect of this story is Garland and Ming-Ming--they are our major antagonists to date and they are the evil dream team we never knew we needed. Garland is calculating, desperate to prove himself against the estranged pseudo sibling that is Tala, while Ming-Ming is just petty bitch mode activated, because how dare Tala be prettier than her.
Overall, there is so much I could say about this story but I’ll end with the fact that I’m delighted that this story is a beyblade fanfic, that we’ve been blessed with it and that I genuinely cannot wait for more of Krixel writing good blitz boys. It is genuinely one of the best fanfics I’ve read to date and I am eager to read more. So please give it a shot!
