I had several run ins with such agents in India. Taken in by fancy websites I submitted my queries to them, only to be told that they would be willing to help me on payment of 5000$. Luckily I had my writer's group and my down to earth husband to hold me back.Writers in your urgency and feverishness to be published, beware of scams. There are no official websites that warn you about agents/companies to stay away from in India,where the publishing world is disorganized and the distribution system bewildering to say the least.Think long and hard before taking that decision to publish in India. Personally self publishing is the best decision I have ever taken. I own the copyright, I decide what stays in the book and what gets edited,and the profits though small are my earnings.
