Today marks India's 69th year of independence from the British. Indians all over the world are celebrating the birth of their nation. However, for minorities in India, this is the worst day. This was not the independence for my people. This was the continued enslavement of mind and body to a new and corrupt system. This system would actively work against minorities while projecting an image of brotherly love and progress. Since 1947, Sikhs and other minority groups have been persecuted, subjugated to hate crimes, war crimes, ours rights abused and taken away, our lives curfewed, our activities monitored, our lands taken out from beneath us, our language degraded in academic institutions, our faith discriminated against, and our heritage and culture reduced to a mere shadow of what it really is. This isn't freedom so no, I will not say, 'happy India's independence'. Instead, I will raise my fist and continue to struggle and fight for my rights and the rights of my community and stand for justice for all people pushed down by the Indian state. Green, orange, and white do not represent any kind of unity or pride, but a systematic destruction of my people for the past 68 years. India crowns itself as the world's largest democracy, but cannot even treat its minorities like its own citizens or even human beings. So tell me, who's freedom and independence are we celebrating? #jaihind #incredibleindia #bharatmahan #hindustan #iloveindia #indianandproud
