Dr Tanmoy Ghorui giving a demonstration of how to take proper care of your dental regions through brushing techniques at the Plungdung Region of Darjeeling District. Along with seven professional doctors we had our last base of free health camp in this area. Here we had a turnout of 161 patients with 84 female and 77 male. Majority of this camp had problems with Medicinal issues that is 76 and 44 of them had eye related problems and 16 of them had dental problems and with 55 people having problems in three of the above mentioned departments. The most challenging part of all was building awareness for the Oral Hygiene as most of the patients never used a toothbrush and apart from that poverty, depression, stress and economic problems lead to various addictions and improper oral hygiene. In all the camps 99% of the patients were with dental carries. Along with Colgate doctor Ghorui conducted the Oral hygiene awareness program in each of the camps and Warren Pharmaceuticals Ltd. helped to deliver the free samples of Colgate to conduct the camp successfully. In the Badamtam Range Office of Darjeeling we were helped a lot by some of the Range Officers of the Forest to organize the villagers in a proper way. As some of the villagers came down from a long way to the Health Camp some of them were in a hurry and there was a huge rush. With over 132 patients in comparison to the previous 120 in Lamahatta Region most of them had eye problems and they were properly guided in a proper way by the Range Officers. This young boy was basically a squint and he was diagnosed properly by Dr. Priyanko Roy who is at present associated with Lions Club in Kolkata and is a professional Eye Specialist. He was helped by Dr. Rakhi Mandal who is also an Eye Specialist. After the treatment this young boy was immediately referred to North Bengal Eye Institute for an Urgent Eye Surgery as that sort of urgent help was not available with us. This is one of the unique cases in Lamahatta Range Office of Darjeeling District where out of 120 patients 49 people with problems of eye were found. Out of 49 patients 38 people were referred to the help of spectacles. Each member has to pay 50 rupees for the specs and the prescriptions were taken by the organisers of the health camp. After the third campus was over we were looking down at 164 patients in total who were referred to spectacles. Eye is a major issue in the hills and most of the people doesn't get proper suggestions from the doctors.
