Monsoon India 2015: Southwest Monsoon Forecast For June 28

Weather systems across the country

There low pressure area which was over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh till Friday is now stationed over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The other low pressure area over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal continues to remain in the same region. An off-shore trough from Gujarat up to Kerala coast still prevails, but the system is not very active now. The Monsoon trough extending from North Rajasthan up to the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal across Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand is still prevailing. A Western Disturbance over Afghanistan region is expected to approach the hills of North India in a couple of days.

Weather activity in various parts of the country

Rainfall activity over Gujarat has eased out completely, bringing huge relief to the areas that have been flooded due to heavy Monsoon rains in the last couple of days. Rainfall along the west coast is also light with Mumbai receiving only 0.5 mm of rain in a span of 20 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. Ratnagiri also received 1 mm of rain, while Honavar and Goa observed 2 mm and 5 mm of rain, respectively. Kerala was the only state in the region to receive some good rain during this period, with Kochi recording 92 mm of rain. Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram also observed 69 mm and 28 mm of rain, respectively. Rainfall in East India has been widespread. In a span of 20 hours, from 8:30 am on Friday, Bhagalpur has recorded 44 mm of rain, Kolkata has observed 24 mm, Bankura 10.4 mm, Balasore 5 mm and Patna 1 mm of rain. Scattered light to good amounts of rain continue in Northeast India with Imphal recording 44 mm of rain, Tejpur 20 mm and Guwahati 15 mm of rain.

Forecast for next 24 hours

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rainfall in East India, particularly in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal is going to be good. Isolated heavy showers are also expected in few pockets. The cyclonic circulations in Bangladesh and Bihar will give this weather in the region. Rainfall along the West coast will mainly be confined to Kerala, where moderate rain is expected. Chances of heavy rain in some pockets can not be ruled out. Central India will largely remain dry as the low pressure area, which was in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh till Friday has moved away from the region and is now over Bihar and Jharkhand. Scattered light to moderate rain will continue to be observed in Northeast India.
