Recommended by 大象體操 Elephant Gym, introducing GriffO (鬼否), a math-rock band from Hangzhou, China.    Very impressive!  =D

Formed in 2014, and they are: 王易玄-voc/synth, 张一杨-gtr, 邓择撰-bass, 龚啸-drums. I think all were students at 中国美术学院 (China Academy of Art).

Check out their Cosmos Egg 宇宙蛋 ep at iNDIEVOX (90 previews -- trust me, you will crave more!)  It came out in October of 2016.  Both iNDIEVOX and KKBOX list 3 songs, but it is a 4-song ep. The 4th song is the song in the video, afflatus.  I wanna buy this, but I need to be sure I’m getting all of the songs. Lemme know if you have better info or a link, please?

瑪啡因樂團 Maffine have posted a few beautiful new demos recently, making progress towards a new release. 

But today they uploaded their entire 2015 album 紡織人 The Weaver to YouTube.    Have a listen, or just go buy the album at iNDIEVOX.   =D

This is both unusual and beautiful: 欽聖 ChinSheng playing a Baritone Guitar, and I think the tuning here is A D G C E A (starting from low to high strings-there are other typical tunings).  

UPDATE: I got a reply to my question about the tuning from Riverside Live Session: “The tuning is A E C G D A. The third and fourth strings are restrung with high octave strings.”   =D

Last time I brought my own guitar in for repair, I had the chance to try a baritone guitar, the deep sound is so impressive!  Would make a wonderful blend in an acoustic duo.  =D

Hi! Do you know of any similar websites like gigguide in taiwan? I'm sad that they have closed their website and I have almost no other way of keeping up when bands are performing! Thank you so much for any help and for running this blog!

Hi there!   Yeah, that is a big loss, I remember how surprised I was when I first saw how many venues & shows they listed every day. Not just the big live houses.

But I recommend the combination of iNDIEVOX.com & StreetVoice.com; these are related sites that post ticket info/promo (iNDIEVOX), show reviews, interviews/photos (StreetVoice).  Both sites are great for listening and exploring different bands.  =D

For a really good weekend preview, the Taipei Times always has a list of shows, by venue. (taipeitimes.com – look for it in the features section) HERE is the most recent, so you can see how they list the shows.  One super-helpful thing they do is give the English names and descriptions for both venues and bands! This has been a blessing for me, since I don’t read/speak Chinese.  (It is an English news publication, but it also has a bilingual section, for learning the languages)  One more thing to note is that although it is a weekend entertainment listing, it sometimes goes into the following week. 

 A relative newcomer on facebook that is looking really good is Taiwan Independent Rock Bands Music Journal (台灣搖滾映像誌). Not a calendar of shows site, but lots of photos, reviews, articles. 

There is one other facebook site that is doing a Thursday/Friday/Saturday calendar of shows every week, but I can’t think of the name at the moment. I read it when it comes up in my feed, but I don’t have it bookmarked.  When I see it next, I’ll edit this post with the name & link so you can go have a look. They list a lot of shows, but no descriptions.

Okay, I saw the site!  It is 獨立音樂 - ID Music (Independent Music) They post a lot of videos with band news, etc. And they usually do a weekend calendar of shows. Good site to have in your feed!
