harmonized (2025)

This wall hanging is meant to look like a firebag, a bag used to carry firestarting materials. It'll be in an exhibition at the end of January, and here is the statement I wrote for the submission:

"With the wall hanging 'harmonized' (2025), I hoped to capture the feeling of community and connection to the land I have found in Manitoba. Despite growing up in the city, many of my most cherished memories are outside of it, at queer summer camps and ceremonies. While finding my queer self, I was always on the land, learning about myself in tandem with learning from our plant, animal, and more-than-human kin. With the bright colours surrounding the heart at the center of this piece, I wanted to express that feeling of love and connection growing outwards, vibrant and loud. In this piece, the complicated and sometimes overwhelming feelings that come with community are shown, but the bright colours and different textures enrich each other, stitching together in belonging.”

This is my first post on one of my projects!✨

I’m working on embroidery at the moment, testing waters and techniques for it to finish this piece. I started this one about a week ago at the moment.

I’m using different stitches and stuff developing it after a while so it is kinda messy, please leave any tips or comments please because I am just starting off and I need some word on it lol.
