Joined an Indigo-dye workshop at Geopark Center yesterday. I’ve been so into the dyeing ever since I tried it for the first time a few years back. 昨日はジオセンターでの藍染ワークショップに参加。 数年前に初めてやってみてから、藍染にハマった私。
Of course I cannot do it often because I don’t have the dye myself. Every time I hear that there’s a workshop, I try to be there by all means. ;) もちろん、自分で藍を持ってないので、しょっちゅうできるわけではないけど。ワークショップがあると聞くたび、ゼッタイ参加しようと頑張ります。
It starts with tying. I wanted to try something very different, so I tried wrapping the cloth (actually a cushion cover) around this stick. It’s a method I had found on the Internet. Everyone said it looked like cha shu (Chinese roasted pork), so this method was named “Cha Shu dye.” LOL まずは布を縛るところから。 私はネットで見つけた変わったやり方を試したかったんで、棒の周りに巻きつけて縛ってみました。皆がチャーシューみたいだと言って、このやり方は「チャーシュー染め」と名付けられることに。ｗｗ
The next step is dipping the tied cloth into the dye. Then you squeeze off the dye and hold the cloth in the air to let the oxidation take place, and dip it again into the dye. You repeat the process several times depending on how deep you want the blue to be. After that, you untie the cloth and rinse off the dye thoroughly with running water. It is this moment that you find out the patterns and the color tones. It is so magical! 次に、すくもと呼ばれる藍の液に漬けてもみ、引き上げて絞っては、空気にさらして酸化させます。そしてまた漬ける。このプロセスを、自分が欲しい濃さになるまで繰り返すわけです。 もういいかなというところまでいったら、絞ってある糸をはずして、流水で流します。茶色っぽいところがなくなるまでしっかり流すと、模様と色合いが現れてきて、もうここがイチバンのなによりの感動ポイント！＾▽＾
Mine turned out like this. The cha shu method created these weed-like stripes, which I loved so much. Unfortunately the dye did not seep into the inner part and left it plain white, so I dyed that part again later. 私のはこんなカンジに。（左が手ぬぐい、右が例のチャーシュー染め）ｗｗ。 チャーシューのほうは、糸の模様が草のような網目のような、オモシロイものになったけど、巻いた中の方に色がゼンゼン入らず真っ白になってたので、後でその部分をもう一度染めさせてもらいました。
These marble patterns are the work by some other participants. Aren’t they great? I’ll definitely try this method next time!! このマーブル柄は、他の参加者の方々のだけど、こぉれ最高でしょう！！ 次回はワタシもゼッタイこのやり方を試します。💕
The workshop looked really busy in the morning, but the part I joined in the afternoon was slow and nice. There were just enough participants and everyone was able to take time to do what (s)he wanted. While waiting, we enjoyed watching participants’ kids and some staff members playing together. It was such a nice, healing time surrounded by all these different tones of blue that I think represent the color of the sky and the ocean in Muroto .
The indigo leaves used this day were locally grown. And there are so many “creative” people here who can’t help thinking and acting out of the box. So some of us are secretly hoping that these workshops may give birth to a new school? of indigo dye which we can call a specialty of Muroto. Yeah, hopefully. Someday. :) :) ワークショップは午前中に寄って見た時にはとても混んでいたけど、午後に私が参加した時は丁度いい人数でした。それぞれが、やってみたいやり方を十分時間をとって試すことができたし。乾き待ちの間には、子供たちやスタッフさんが一緒に遊ぶところをのんびり眺めて笑い転げて。 それは、様々なトーンの青に囲まれた、とってもやさしい癒される時間で、そのさまざまな青は、きっとすべて、室戸の空と海の色を切り取ったものと言ってもあてはまるんじゃないかと。そんな気がする時間でした。 使われた藍の葉はすべて地元室戸で育てられたもの。そして、ここには、常識をはみ出したクリエイティブな人々がたくさんいるのだから。こうしたワークショップから将来、「室戸ならではの藍染」というのが生まれて育って行ったりしないかなぁと、密かに楽しみにしてるトコロです。^^)
