Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan
India has suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. The attack, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths, was attributed by India to Pakistani nationals, though no public evidence has been provided. In response, India announced the suspension of the treaty, effective immediately, until Pakistan ceases support for cross-border terrorism.
