I needed to see you | Daphaniel
"Mistress, I'm wondering... When will your partner be returning? I very much enjoy helping you out, but it was a lot of work before the accident, for the three of us taking care of these children. Now that it's just you and I, it's considerably harder." Astrid purred gently, trying to be sweet. Daphne sighed.
"I know. Astrid I'm sorry I've been so dependent on your help. I don't mean to stretch you so thin." She couldn't take it anymore. "I hope he'll be home soon."
She had to see him. She made sure the babies were sound asleep and that Astrid was nearby if anything were to happen, before pulling on a fitted white dress, grabbing a jacket, and making her way to hospital wing. The paintings she saw on her way breathed deeply as they slept, their chests rising and falling rhythmically as she passed. The single window she crossed looked out onto the grounds, dark and cold and clear with night, the moon too high in the sky to see from where she stood. She continued, stepping lightly as she slipped away from the nurse-sentry by the door and towards Nate's bed. She stepped behind the partitions, closing them around her and the bed. She stood over him, smiling in spite of herself as she noticed his color had more or less returned to him and his bandages seemed less excessively bloodied than the last time she had been there. Daphne raised a gentle, albeit chilly hand and pushed his hair back from his forehead. He stirred and she jumped back, thinking perhaps she hadn't woken him up. She hoped she hadn't.
