Deltaprintr kickstarter campaign at current time point – 14 days to go and they currently gathered about 78% of its target: $152,280 pledged of $195,000 goal. It’s time to write something about this new delta 3d printer.

Couple months ago I contacted with the Team standing behind this project and managed to get some information about their creation. Now we can verify couple things and ask another couple questions.

First of all we have to clearly say that this Fused Filament Fabrication machine is one of the most inexpensive one on the market. I started this post with the price tag because it is the most important and a little bit controversial subject. Under articles on 3ders.org and kickstarter webpage people start asking whether it is possible to make working properly 3d printer so cheaply. I really understand their fears/disbelieving because Pirate 3D has a  quite unpleasant problem with price growth of the components of their Buccaneer 3D printer. Starting project on kickstarter with a little profit margin is a risky business for both sides: customers and creators. In this case guys from Deltaprintr Team simply lowered the number of available machines in each pledge to make sure that the number of orders don’t start skyrocketing. It will probably prevent situation when enormous number of clients wait very long for their printers. Of course I will not ask here about businessmodel of this project because it will be revised after end of their campaign.

Deltaprintr Team  streamlined construction of their delta by eliminating as much parts as it is possible. They used Spectra fishing line instead of expensive belts. They resigned from heated bed. They are even working on their own electronics (“We’ve just started a few production prototypes that our chinese manufacturer will start producing soon.” ~ Shai Schechter). All that efforts to obtain the most inexpensive KIT and make assembling as simple as possible. There is also a promise to create detailed assembling instruction full of photos. It was planned to be released online even before kickstarter campaign but maybe it will submitted to backers after end of it.

Most important features in my humble opinion:

 very interesting price

simple construction

 LCD and SD card reader in every KIT

fully open-source

assembly instruction full of pictures

decent quality of prints on pictures

expansion packs in the future (including - critical in my opinion - heated bed)

rather cheap upgrade to bigger version

If I had to mention some shortcomings of this project it had to be lack of pledge with heated bed. It is important because

 ABS availability is even slightly bigger than PLA in this 3D HUBS report.

I love deltas and this little devil is one of the most promising one (for other check this list). Contact with backers is very important and creators know that well because they answer to their supporters as fast as it is possible in Comments section of the campaign webpage.
