Day One - An Amazing Coincidence
I know the first post for this blog should be an explanation of what Infant Botulism is and why it is important to educate people and doctors about it, but something happened today that I wanted to write about first. I wasn't sure if I would even have enough things to write about for 23 posts and I was hemming and hauling about creating this blog. The coincidence today made up my mind that I had to write it. Knowing that one year ago our family changed forever, and knowing that yesterday and today were going to be tough to get through without feeling overwhelmingly sad, we wanted to have some happy, fun things planned. Yesterday, we invited family to join us at a an indoor fun center that Joey loves and we all had a great time. Today, Joe and I took Audrey and Joey to ride the steam engine at Strasburg Railroad. Joey loves his choo choo's so we thought this would be a great way to celebrate. While waiting to board, my husband bumped into a former co-worker who happened to be going on the same train witg his family. My heart stopped when I realized who it was. It was the only person from Joe's work, a place he had been working at for 5 years, who came to check on us while our son was in the hospital. He actually came to visit us for a second time while I was practicing how to insert a feeding tube down my son's nose because that's how our 3 month old ate. His second visit brought an envelope filled with donations that he had personally collected from other coworkers, including a generous donation from the FOP. The FOP even gave us another donation later from a fundraiser they held. Thank You!
Anyway, to run into this person today of all days was a wonderful gift because I was able to say THANK YOU again. You have no idea how much of an impact other people's kindness and compassion can have when you are in a situation like we were. So, Thank You George Reynolds!
