Interrupted by the voices of the judge, her father and her boyfriend who urge her to justify herself, she reveals her story: “Why can’t I be what I want to be?” Forty years after its initial world premiere in Austria, Peter Turrini’s acclaimed monologue arrived on a British stage. Directed and designed by RADA graduate Patrick Steinwidder and fearlessly played by physical theatre performer Denise Cecchi in a special straightjacket construction, this new Austrian-Brazilian co-production takes on the play’s dark and still highly relevant taboo theme.
