Is poking, re: the spelling of FATALITY in Ancient Egyptian still acceptable or have I lost my window?

No not at all, I just straight up forgot ahahaha sorry.

So unfortunately Middle Egyptian hadn’t the word “fatality” exactly. “Finish him” would be slightly easier since it did have the verb “to complete/to finish” (qn, for who is wondering), but since MEg didn’t use “finish” as an idiom for killing/finishing off, it wouldn’t exactly cover the load. The closest you’d come for that would be this verb:

If we make a phrase like “Finish him” out of that, we’d land at imperative + preposition + 3rd person masculine dependent pronoun, which is:

wAH mwt Hr sw - Impose death upon him

As for “fatality”, I’d have to get creative. “Fatality” is defined as “the quality or state of causing death or destruction”, so I think we could either use a causative verb, stative, or try and fiddle with nisbes to see what we get. But I’m currently unable to get my MEg grammar centre online because I’ve had so little sleep, so I’ll have to get back to you on that!

Could I ask an odd personal opinion ethics question? Would it be weird to get a tattoo of art from a tomb? (specifically thinking of the cat from the Tomb of Nebamun in your header)

That’s entirely dependent on the art itself. I’d personally say it’s weird to get a tattoo of a tomb scene depicting a particular individual or with a specific religious significance. But vignettes like the cat from Nebamun’s tomb I think are fine (in fact, that particular one is something I’ve considered, but shelved the idea because I’d need to get a tattoo artist who’s also an epigrapher to get absolutely every line one hundred percent spot on and something tells me those are not easy to find). Although technically everything within a tomb has a religious connotation, snippets from “daily life” scenes would in most cases be fine to reproduce as tattoo as long as you make sure there’s nothing in the context, or nothing missing from the context, that could make it read weirdly.

Do you ever accidentally misread her name as Cleopatra VII PhiloRAPTOR because I do that literally all the time and it is only by the grace of some god that I haven't had to pronounce it in front of my students

Hahaha not accidentally, I/we do it on purpose a lot because it’s just hilarious. It was definitely intended (also because “Philosoraptor” is actually pretty hard to get as a typo of Philopator), and to be honest I’m also 100% the kind of person who would throw that into a lecture with a perfect deadpan, leaving the students wondering if I meant that or made a genuine mistake.

I'm so sorry you're going through all that. I hope you heal from this. Next time I walk past that Heqat sculpture at the museum, I'll ask her to send some positive energy or something. (Sorry, I don't know if these are the right things to say but I hope things get better)
