Nevermore

It tears at you, carves itself into your skin. Your chest, your mind, your source of life, of existence, of assessment, knowledge and ever-growing gasps for air. To feel, to savor, to inhale and listen and attain something that could have been, but never was. Or maybe something that was, but now can never be. Like the world comes colliding at the bat of an eyelash; the moment it all flows out of you, slow, then faster, and there’s nothing you can do. And there’s not many nights that the strings come together like magnetic lovers in seas of darkness, but then it does, the strings tie into one another, and then right when they do, some gravitational force of the soul rips them apart, and you remember how it can never be, or never was.
