A social-entrepreneurial endeavor that not only made eye care accessible to millions of poor Indians but also revolutionized the modern business model. 

I'm currently reading the book "Infinite Vision" for one of my classes, which goes into greater detail about the organization's founding and philosophy.  There is a heavy spiritual influence guiding Aravind's management that cannot be overlooked.  It amazes me that in spite of the strict assembly-line form of production and the scientific brilliance of the staff, the teachings of Sri Aurobindo (a famous Indian guru and philosopher) still hold so much value and influence at Aravind.  Their efficient business model and effective implementation combined with the selfless goals and commitment to service without rewards is stunningly successful.
