yes!!! and the vice president, the “no tolerance” policy which is actually pretty shit, and off topic but dancing goats coffee! i was super impressed by how they captured the “hs experience” and the jokes were hilarious
yeAH I WAS GONNA SAY THE PRINCIPAL FIGURE WHO THINKS HE’S SO HIP AND DOWN WITH THE KIDS MY HIGH SCHOOL HAD THAT TOO???? and oh my god dancing goats i’ve never actually been to the location they put in the movie but i’ve driven past it plenty of times and also i was at the dancing goats location at ponce city market just last week???? and fuckin nana g’s which is gross tbh but gross food truck food is just a Staple of football games TBH
and i mean i had this experience reading the book too, like usually when i read or watch something that depicts the queer experience in a way i can relate to it’s always in this general kind of way, like the details of our stories don’t match but the feelings do, but reading simon vs i sort of had an inverse experience where i could relate to the way it depicted being queer because all of the details felt like they were being lifted from my life??? wrt the “no tolerance” policy that the admins are actually shit at enforcing, and the weird brand of heteronormativity of all the school spirit activities, and the way that it could be a lot worse because people don’t usually get beat up for being gay but even if you’re in a fairly liberal part of georgia [comparatively] it’s still georgia so people can be so fucking awful about it [this isn’t really something either the book or the movie draws a lot of attention to but i feel like it’s still there, the aspect of how when you come out people sort of treat it like this spectacle???], and honestly it was bizarre reading it and it was BIZARRE seeing it on an actual screen with the Atlanta streets and the Atlanta skyline and the VERY Atlanta high school but it was also so, so wonderful, i can’t even express :’]
