Infj Creativity [fe & se]

Tapping into infj creativity requires a combination of fe and se to connect abstract ideas into reality. For instance, infj can visualize through ni by stringing together mood boards into their heads, but in order to make a difference with their art, they also need to ask, how can I communicate universal truths and understanding through my art (fe)? Even if something is really personal, the execution allows others to understand through a connected experience, tapping into others emotions in response to the idea conveyed through constructing and synthesizing details, such as colors, textures, typography, cultural reference, details, form, ect (se).

INFJs and Art

INFJs are often described as creative people, and I would argue that, at the very least, we are passionate lovers of art.  For us, art is more than just something to see or hear or touch.  It is an experience, something we feel in ways that are hard to put into words.  

Part of it, IMHO, is because we INFJs "mirror." What others see as empathy is the instinctive ability to give others the responses they want/need. I have been told so many times, "oh, we're so much alike" or "you remind me of myself when I was younger." It's what makes us successful, but it's exhausting because we are always mirroring others, and we can become lost in the process. Art mirrors us. It lets us truly study humanity and find ourselves without the pressure of mirroring someone else. That is why I find myself moved so deeply before a work - be it a statue, a poem, a painting, or a song. Art lets me find myself - unexpectedly and without expectation.

Art, at its best, is a pure expression of the raw human spirit.  It speaks to the big stuff - the things that make us human and let us connect with one another.  It is emotion formed into aesthetics.  As INFJs, that’s something we long for.  But when we get it from another person, we are often too overwhelmed or too concerned with the other individual’s well being to really appreciate it.  Art lets us revel in it.  It asks us to understand ourselves and our connection to the human race rather than asking us to understand someone else’s needs or to understand social norms.  Because of that, we love art with an intensity that may be impossible to explain to other personality types, leaving us with tears in our eyes and the explanation of “it’s just...special to me.”
