Did you know that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) covers a wide variety of symptoms, skills, and levels of impairment?
Autism is not a single condition, but rather a spectrum of closely related disorders with shared core symptoms. Every individual on the autism spectrum has problems to some degree with social interaction, empathy, communication, and flexible behavior. But the level of disability and the combination of symptoms varies tremendously from person to person.
For instance, some people on the autism spectrum may have impressive language skills while others may not speak at all. And while some are socially engaged, others are markedly withdrawn. 🌈
People with ASD may have exceptional abilities in visual skills, music, and academic skills. About 40% of those with ASD have average to above average intellectual abilities. 💡
Keep in mind, everyone's autism journey is unique. Let's continue to embrace the diversity of experiences in our community. 💙
