Depending on the information I am looking for and the use, I do verify information/sources regularly. Especially in the case of work, I try to always cross reference stories on multiple sources before taking any action, as I am dealing with student safety.
The youtube dataviewer was a verification tool that I was not familiar with and find fascinating. I will keep this in mind for future news reports, especially for events in regions like Russia, China, and the Middle East, where we have stragetic expansion goals as an office.
I don't believe I have ever posted hoax information, but I see examples of it on facebook almost everyday. The most common is cases of false celebrity deaths. I try to post very little on facebook, but I would never post something I knowingly knew was false. The idea people would post false information on purpose is strange to me. The range of internet trolls is wide and I choose to not engage with individuals who practice hoaxing or spread false information. I think it creates negative energy, and there is no need for more of that in the world and especially on the internet.
My thoughts on information verification haven't changed a lot since the beginning of class, but I have learned new tools available for fact checking.
