#70: “The world’s two largest dams are both in Russia. They are the Inguri (988 feet high) and the Nurek (984 feet high).”
Inaccurate information.
Wikipedia only lists the Nurek on its list of the largest dams, and the Nurek (which is now in Tajikistan- the dam was once part of the Soviet Union) is twelfth on the list of their largest dams. The list measures dams by volume as well as by height, so this fact is more about the tallest dams, rather than the largest ones. For the list of the tallest dams, the Nurek is first, while the Inguri is fourth.
The Inguri Dam, which is now in Georgia, is the world’s highest concrete arch dam, at 892 feet. The Nurek Dam is taller than the Inguri, and it’s the tallest dam in the world at 984 feet.
