“Right here is fine,” says Harry. He drops the basket full of food and lays down a checked blanket. The wind blows his hair in every which and I smile at the sight of his quarrel with the blanket.
“This is crazy!” I say grabbing hold of the opposite edge of the blanket, helping him flatten it down.
“Allison, it will be fun!” he says with his deep voice, his green eyes peering up at me.
“But it is absolutely freezing! It’s 10:00 pm and it’s winter!” I say shivering. He stands up and wraps me in hug.
“I know, but we are leaving tomorrow and I know you said you like picnics. It sounded better in my head, okay?” He laughed then kissed me on the forehead.
I sighed, “I don’t want you to leave.” He hugs me tighter and I burry my face into his toned chest.
He nuzzles his face into my hair and whispers, “I don’t want leave you, either.” He then leans in and kisses me. I don’t hesitate to kiss him back. Our bodies are very close and it is keeping me warm. “I love you,” he whispers.
Harry pulls away leaving me shivering once again. We sit down next to each other and Harry wraps a big warm blanket around the two of us. “What can I get you, Allison?”
“I’ll have a few strawberries, I suppose,” I say as he hands me a little container.
I start to take out a strawberry, when a big hand takes it from me. I stare at Harry like he has two heads. He smiles cheekily, “Allow me.”
He takes the berry and brings it to my lips. I take a small bite and smile. “It’s good,” I say. Harry smiles and kisses my lips before pulling back all too soon. He licks his lips as if trying to taste the strawberry I had just eaten. He smiles.
We both kind of sit there, just staring at each other for what feels like forever. Harry breaks the silence, “Oh! I almost forgot.”
He reaches into the basket and pulls out a candle and some matches. “How fancy,” I joke.
“Only the best for you, Allison,” he smiles.
“Aw, Haz,” I say back. He lights the candle and leans in to kiss me. “Harry! Watch out!” I yell as his foot hits the candle and knocks it over. A corner of the blanket catches on fire.
“Shit!” he yells pushing me back and pouring our bottles of water on it. I start laughing. “Help!” he yells and I grab the thermos of hot cocoa and dump it. The flame dies and floats away in the wind as smoke. I can’t control my laughter anymore and neither can he. We both fall on our backs in the grass and I nuzzle up on his chest.
“This definitely went a lot better in my head.” I laugh and he says, “I’m going to miss you so much.”
“It was perfect, Haz,” I say. He may be leaving tomorrow, but at least tonight he is all mine. “I am going to miss you, too.”
