Songbirds
Castiel. Even if you leave, know that I will remain loyal, for you are a brother I refuse to lose.
And so Inias released his grip on Castiel, allowing his brother to disappear before him with the quiet rustle of feathers.
So began the months of countless war with Inias fighting to keep their species from embarking upon a full fledged civil war, the nights of quiet desperation as he scanned the his world for their leader.
He had not given up hope when the archangels began to turn against one another, he remained steadfast in his faith when he had begun to slaughter his own family, he still fought in the name of Castiel.
Yet, as the hours passed, he could feel the desperation quashing his hope, his faith, leaving him with only a name to fight for. Thus leading to the days of fighting where he felt not a thing, no remorse, no pain, simply driven by his mission.
In the end, after killing one of his brothers, he had begun to harbor resentment towards his brother. Is he going to be just like Father? Absent despite our prayers?
Finally, after so many futile searches, he denounced Castiel as dead. It was easier to think of him as dead.
He had kept one of Castiel's feathers just as he had kept the feathers of all of his close brothers. Just as he had done with the feathers of his fallen brothers he released Castiel's onto Earth, transforming it into a songbird.
