It’s time for the members of Task Force 151 to have their mandatory yearly physical. Jamie sits on the uncomfortable exam table, waiting for a medic to walk in.
A female medic walks in and tells Jamie what she’ll do during the physical, then begins the physical.
The head medic walks into Price’s office.
“Today’s physicals don’t show anyone is unfit for this until,” the medic says. “However, one soldier is refusing a couple of mandatory vaccines.”
“Great,” Price sighs. “Who?”
“Jamie.” Price didn’t think Jamie would be the one giving the medics a hard time. He was expecting to hear a rookie’s name. “She didn’t give a reason before walking out of the medbay. You are familiar with the outspokenness of anti-vaxxers. I doubt that’s her real reason. Fear of needles is possible, even in those used to facing danger.”
Price nods. “I’ll talk to her.”
Price stands up from the chair and leaves the office. The medic goes back to the medbay.
Jamie hears a knock on the door. He gets off the bed and opens the door, not expecting to see Price.
“I have received information about your refusal to get vaccines. You realize that you’re required to?”
“Nope, I’m not getting any needless.”
“You’ll have t; otherwise, I must discharge you.”
Price takes Jamie’s wrist to take her to the medbay.
Price leads Jamie to an exam room and goes to get a medic.
He comes back with a medic five minutes later. The medic has the supplies to administer the required vaccines. Jamie knows she can’t argue. Her reason for not getting the shots isn’t a valid reason to exempt her.
“You’re not going to like this,” Price says as he sits behind Jamie on the exam table.
Price holds Jamie’s arms. Enough that she can’t get away. The medic has seen adults cry while getting shots, but Jamie’s cries shock Price. Price hugs Jamie once the medic is done. He knows Jamie feels embarrassed now that he knows she’s afraid of needles.
