* Carrollian Challenge *

I've been tagged by the lovely all-in-the-golden-afternoon96  to take part in this new Carrollian Challenge. What I'll have to do is to introduce myself, and write as many anecdotes and fact as I can remember concerning Lewis Carroll. Then, I'll have to tag some friends :) Let's go!

Carrollian since- I was 12 (or 12 and a half, it's always hard to say ^^)

Anecdotes/facts:

- I'll start with the very begining: the first Alice book I ever read was this one  . I remember I liked it a lot, and was impressed by the drawings of animals wearing clothes and looking almost human except for the head. If I had to direct my own version of Alice. All the animals would wear human clothes.

- I watched the Disney version when I was 6 or 7 at my grandma's house and I remember being mesmerized by this movie. I could have considered myself a carrollian starting from this day if a specific event didn't ruin everything: I was the weird child in my class and the teacher hated me. Coincidentally, this teacher happened to look just like the Queen of Hearts, as she was depicted in the Disney movie. I don't know why I did this but one day, I said in front of the whole class that today was my unbirthday. The way she looked at me after that made me so ashamed of myself that I decided I should stop making Alice references for a while. (I discovered later in the file they made about me in school that this teacher said I was "a deviant and manipulative child", so no, I wasn't exaggerating when I said she hated me...)

- When I was 9, the video game American Mc Gee's Alice came out. I was in the city with my dad when I came across the introduction of the game. Needless to say, I was in shock, but in the good sense of the term. I didn't know why they would turn one of my favourite movies into something so morbid, but it attracted me somehow. I was so happy when my dad bought it some months later! Sadly, I was only allowed to watch him play the game, and some situations were too scary for a child my age, so I had to get away most of the time.

- At 11 years old, I discovered Marilyn Manson thanks to my stepfather who bought me the album Holly Wood. I quickly became a fan, and in 2006, Manson decided to direct a movie about Lewis Carroll. I knew that it was the man who wrote the book that inspired the Disney movie AND my new favourite video game. And now he was inspiring my idol! This was the event that finally made me want to read the Alice books. I didn't like to read at the time but I was willing to make an effort. I was 12 at the time and that's why I can consider myself a carrollian starting from this moment.

- I saw the face of Charles Dodgson for the first time while playing the Alice video game. You can see him in the portrait gallery in the White Castle in the chessboard level. I've already talked about it, but what happened to me at this particular moment was nothing less than magical. I fell in love, just like that. I am hungry for every piece of information I can find about him since then. Sadly, I came across some theories that made me believe that he was a repressed pervert and it made me sad and disgusted of my own feelings. But now, I'm convinced that he is completely innocent. I know he wasn't a saint, but at least I'm sure that he wasn't a pedophile, not even a repressed one. I'm an advocate of the new research. 

- At the moment, I have 37 carrollian related books: 7 biographies about Lewis Carroll, 1 about Alice, and 29 illustrated versions of Alice, the Hunting of the Snark, ect... I also have a couple of articles from the Contariwise website   that my friend  still-she-haunts-me-phantomwise   had the kindness to publish on her blog. I think I have enough documentation to write an essay now! ^^

- One of the very few reasons I stay on tumblr now is because I've met wonderful people with whom I can finally discuss about Lewis Carroll seriously. Most of my friends in real life avoid having this kind of debate with me because they know it's a touchy subject. Some of them are still convinced that he was a pedophile, and they think I'm too obsessed with him for my own good. I'm glad I've found a community where I can talk about my love for Lewis Carroll and his works without looking like some kind of freak. (Because, yes, I tend to get really angry as well when people insult him without even trying to know more.)

Well, this looked more like a chronology rather than a list of anectodes but here you are! I really loved doing the challenge and I hope the people I'll tag will have a great time doing it too :)

oh my gosh, I’m so sorry Raven. I hope your parents aren’t as harsh and you think they’ll be. :<

Ah, don't worry. They're just going to think that my problems are their problems, like they always do ^^ They're also going to put a lot of pressure on me and I'm not looking forward to that.

I fixed the problem with my stream! :)

Turns out, I'd accidentally messed up one of the video settings when I was setting the stream up. It was trying to record about 10x as many pixels in the screen area as there were, resulting in the weird pixelation that Jenna and I saw on the output.

Well, it's sorted now. xD

I promise I won't cock it up again. Hopefully. xD Jenna, Joy, when are you both free for a retry?

So I've been thinking about what I wanna show this Sunday on my stream for you, and I've narrowed it down to a few choices. Please pick one - especially Joy and Phantom Bears. :D

3) Care Bears' Nutcracker Suite (I swear, it's not as weird as the Care Bears' Alice was! xD)
