huh. it's interesting that beldaruit lacks proper accommodations in the great hall. his smokeselves are this whimsical and elusive part of his character, but it's also the main way he moves around the hall—he even says himself that he relies mostly on his window-way door. its tetia who widens the hallways for his sealchair to move through. and isn't that interesting? doesn't it make you think: why hadn't the witches ever thought about that? would beldaruit show up in person more often if he had the ability to traverse more freely?

i love agott's arc because in so many ways it speaks to gifted kid burnout imo. her view on magic is something grand, flawless, and insanely technical. but she often forgets that magic is cast to help others and bring joy. she's taken aback about the insinuation of making the test (and in turn, magic) fun in a way that's comparable to artists who also forget that art should be fun for them. i think it's really clever that the other girls have these grand displays at magic for beldaruit, but agott creates something much simpler but useful.

spoilers for chapters 55 and beyond!

doing a reread and huh. i'm not sure if anyone's pointed this out yet, but it's interesting to see how certain events are foreshadowed as early as the second test arc.

even though the spells used for both are different, agott still alludes to the idea of someone repeating the same sad fate (euini's transformation and dagda's death)

at this point, we already see the knights moralis as this opposing, merciless figure. seen in how easthies is quick in his attempt to erase coco's memories at the riverbank and multiple people have to convince him otherwise. euini is a victim of forbidden magic, but even agott knows that this fact is not enough to create an exception. and this is emphasized by the fact that despite galga's standings as a knight, who became the victim of a memory erasure spell, would have to be exiled alongside criminals. there are no exceptions.

y'know, we make a lot of jokes that qifrey's nepo baby status is why olruggio got to be his watchful eye, but given how popular olly is...maybe he's the one who requested it and how could they say no?
