Wassily Kandinsky painted "Composition No. 224" in 1920 while living in post-revolutionary Moscow. Around him artists argued that abstraction had no place in the new world. Kandinsky disagreed. Bold bands of yellow pink and blue cross the canvas while geometric forms meet softer organic shapes.
