Wild Cat
by Rosa Bonheur (1850, realism, oil on canvas)
Caspar David Friedrich's "The Watzmann" draws your eye straight toward the glowing Alpine summit. But below it tiny pine trees cling to broken rocks making the enormous mountain feel even more powerful. Friedrich likely never saw the Watzmann himself. He constructed the landscape in his Dresden studio using other artists' sketches and his own imagination turning a real mountain into a vision of the sublime. Quelle: meisterdrucke.com
William-Adolphe Bouguereau's "The Little Shepherdess" presents rural life as wealthy 19th-century collectors wanted to see it. Barefoot and holding her crook across her shoulders the young shepherdess appears calm immaculate and untouched by the hardships of farm work. Painted in 1889 the work shows Bouguereau's polished academic style at a time when the Impressionists were challenging almost everything it represented. Quelle: meisterdrucke.com
Sargent would've smoothed Bergson into polish. Blanche leaves the suit a smear of dark, unfinished strokes - only the bald head catches full light. Quelle: meisterdrucke.com
John Frederick Kensett's "Shrewsbury River, New Jersey" is all soft olive lavender and hazy blue. Small sailboats drift across calm water while the distant shoreline almost disappears into the light. Édouard Vuillard's "In the Room" turns an ordinary interior into a world of pattern. Floral fabrics olive tones and warm lamplight surround figures who almost disappear into their surroundings while a mirror opens onto cooler blue-grey light. As a member of the Nabis Vuillard treated wallpaper furniture and people with equal importance making the room itself the true subject. Quelle: meisterdrucke.com

Cropsey became famous for his autumn landscapes where intense color and light transformed even quiet corners of nature into something extraordinary. Quelle: meisterdrucke.com

Olaf Isaachsen's "Kristiansand after the Fire" shows a city rebuilding after disaster. Charred walls and scattered ruins fill the foreground while three elegantly dressed women continue on their way beneath a clear blue sky, creating a striking contrast between destruction and everyday life. A leading Norwegian Realist, Isaachsen painted scenes with honesty rather than idealism. This remarkable work reminds us that even after great loss, life quietly moves forward. Adolph Tidemand's "Listening on Krøderen" captures a quiet moment of Norwegian life illuminated by firelight and moonlight. A family waits patiently in a small boat as a fisherman prepares to spear fish using "lystring" - a traditional Scandinavian night-fishing technique that relied on torchlight to attract fish.
