It's winter and Dream plans to teach Sam how to skate.

„You put one paw- No wait. Two paws, both one side, in front, lift your other paws while centering your weight forward and glide. Repeat with the other side by setting them down, lifting the others and bringing your weight forward.“ Dream instructed, slowly demonstrating the same movements just with a pair of legs less.
“So a lot of weight balancing?” Sam asked, glancing up to him before down at his trembling paws that all had their own ice skates on them. It kept the cold out well but not the anxiety.
“Yeah, basically. Keep your upper body a bit more forward- Actually, I'm not sure how well this will work with four legs but it might.”
Sam looked nervous to say the least. Dream had a feeling if his boyfriend only had two legs, he’d already have landed on the ground. And while he knows Sam would find it cute to be caught in his arms as he fell and he’d be a blushing mess (something Dream very much loves), he also knows his love would much prefer to be stable and be able to glide around, hands in hands with Dream. (And maybe then have a dramatic fall where Dream catches him.)
Point was, first learning then the romcom stuff.
Dream tried to remember how he was taught how to skate but that has been over 10 years ago and with someone that was admittedly better at teaching than Dream is. He wondered if Punz would have been better at this. They do have a sorta adopted brother that they taught some things to. Maybe one of those was ice skating.
Dream does have two younger siblings though they also learned from Mamacita like him. He doubts Mamacita would teach Sam though. Last he checked, she was still mad at him for the basement incident.
“Okay so. One thing i can recommend is also having your paws in a sorta v shape with the front pointing outward? Yeah, like that.” Dream instructed, with Sam following his advice. He could see Sam’s small tail swishing nervously behind him.
Sam lifted two paws forward and repeated the same with the other, gradually walking in a rather silly way that made Dream wonder for if the same advice for two legged skaters can even apply to four legged ones.
"Could you- can you drive around a bit. Show me again?" his boyfriend asked.
"Sure." Dream smiled before starting to skate one round. He did his best to not move too fast and make his movements well visible so it would actually be useful.
When he got back, Sam tried again. Even making some progress and slowly skating with still very shaky limbs. But it wasn't long before Sam stopped. "I'm sorry. I don't- I'm sorry. I can't do this." His gaze stayed firmly at one spot in the ice as his ears sunk low.
"Sammy?"
"I can't skate. I'm not- I don't have- I can't."
"Sam, it's fine. No worries. We can try another time or never. You don't have to be able to skate."
Sam grumbled, very much disagreeing with what Dream said but didn't voice any arguments out loud as they ventured home to cuddle in bed as Dream had decided.
