I didn't actually think you'd do it.
"You can’t seriously be saying you didn’t expect this."
» For a moment, the tall boy raised an eyebrow as he stared down at the enigma known as Enoshima Junko, crumpled before him on the ground. He then settled for brushing aside his white hair that had gotten in his line of sight, his previous expression gone with the wind and replaced by a completely disgusted one.
"…Don’t misunderstand," he barked at her now-frail figure. "I absolutely… absolutely detest you. Not ever would I hesitate to rid of your existence if I were given the chance, and it just so happens to be that I was fortunate enough to receive that chance.”
» It was actually quite laughable. That the symbol and embodiment of absolute despair would fall to his hands. Despite having shot her— yes, he had done just that, the gun still smoking from its tip in his hand, his finger still on the trigger and prepared to pull it at a moment’s notice— Komaeda wasn’t the least concerned of the consequences. Rather, he was overjoyed… no, that wasn’t the word. Anyone looking at him would think he seemed a bit indifferent, and that might have been true. But the truth was, he felt quite satisfied. That an existence and a wasted life of human garbage such as himself could be of use to the talented symbols of hope that would lead the world to greatness— he was content to be able to finish off the source of all his hatred.
» He hated it. Despair. And so he loathed Enoshima herself. He didn’t feel a bit of remorse at his deed. Murder wouldn’t be tolerated, of course, so he would have to face some trouble. That’s right… there was no way he would be thanked for his accomplishment, especially not from the others he had wished to assist. Enoshima’s actions and interference had led to a world falling to such chaos; it was too far-gone to mend. Why had he shot her? What was the point…? The world couldn’t be saved— it would fall back into the hands of the talentless, and those with talent would make sure to bring it to meet its end. Any others would fail… isn’t that right? Isn’t that just how it was? Could this despair truly lead to the light he believed to be hope?
» He narrowed his eyes, a smile creeping onto his face. It wasn’t until that very moment that he had realized the entirety of his situation. Yes… he had done it. He had taken down the mastermind with his own hands! With that revelation, he pulled back the hand with the gun in it, loosening his finger to twirl it along with the gun itself, and kicked Enoshima in the gut. She was probably too prideful to let out any groans of pain in her last moments, but her pained expression as she lay in that pool of blood was enough gratification for him.
"Ha…hahaha… Hahahaa… Hahahahahahaa…! I’ve done… it… at least… With my own hands, I’ve… I…" his voice trailed off, as Komaeda was so overcome with emotion. But it felt strange.
» Komaeda didn’t quite understand… he felt strange. He felt thrilled, of course, but at the same time… there was something strange. Could it be… he was at the end of his rope because of his own actions? He didn’t understand… and so he dropped the gun and merely listened to it clatter on the ground, splashing slightly in that blood that had once belonged to the leader of Super High School Level Despair.
"…Oh? Oh… oh, oh…" he echoed, removing his foot from her gut and placing it firmly beneath him. "Oh?" Although he continued questioning himself aloud, Enoshima had taken her last breath and fallen into a deep sleep called death… She had attempted to struggle, but it was no use, and yet she now looked peaceful. How frustrating.
"…Hahaha… That’s strange— Aah, isn’t that… strange?" he continued.
Did I… hate you? Hmm, that’s strange… Ah, but of course I did!
"Of course I did!" Komaeda made sure to shout it to reassure himself. It was true… and yet he doubted his own voice, because he came to the realization that there was no hope left for him.
» Because he himself had fallen into despair. And so he would watch the rest of the world revolve as it had, as it would due to Enoshima’s wicked, despair-inducing plans, and await the hope that would arrive after the greatest despair. Even if it might have been too late for him, he would expect it… The greatest, shining hope that would defeat all despair.
