Hi, Enrico! How did you approach into electronic music?

Bos Nrc

I've always listened to different kinds of music, but as the time passed I focused more and more on all of the contemporary electronic music scene.

I couldn't actually state that I belong to one specific genre - indeed, I wouldn't do such thing. 

Being part of the club culture has been a slow and natural approaching process, speaking about EDM (Electronic Dance Music) everybody recognize in the club "the" place where you have to go to fully experience and hear that music.

Do you play music instruments?

Bos Nrc

My main instrument is the computer, but still I can use analog effects and machines too, here and there, to get sort of any hybrid result.

Personally I love mixing different sounds from different sources; each one has its own characteristics and features.

 How you make your own sound? 

Bos Nrc

I can't exactly explain how I create my sound, it simply comes out.

I let myself being influenced by people, places and other music I hear and then everything becomes part of a precise time of my life that I want to recreate and express in form of music.

Can you tell us about Berlin club scene? Bos Nrc

Berlin is a constantly moving town. Every year the scene changes in the city, always looking for new spaces and sounds.

That's why I can't simply define it in a sentence or describe it with a single story.

Much has been said about it since the fall of the wall, it is not wrong but neither complete or definitive.

I just want to keep for myself this picture of Berlin, an attracting and mysterious reality.

Can you tell about the clubs in different countries, or may be special teams where you like best? 

Bos Nrc 

I could just compare Berlin with the place where I come from, Italy.

Something that immediately comes to my mind because I experienced it is that there are lots of talented people, both among organizers and performers, and they are not less clever than the Berlin scene. Unfortunately in Italy the law is very restrictive concerning organizing musical - or even non-standardly labelled-events and this stops the growth of a free culture in the country. 

Here in Berlin german laws go on the opposite direction, allowing and encouraging the growth of the scene, that is also a consistent part of the city's incomings.

The german Capital is the best example of a righteous evaluation of a city's strength in terms of entertainment and therefore tourism, something our lawmakers should properly learn. Yet extremely if you look very carefully there are some important events in Italy where the club scene receives its deserved relevance.

How do you thinking, why most interesting techno musicians have italian roots but live in Berlin? 

Bos Nrc 

Berlin could be an important destination for any kind of artist, an important experience and spotlight for everything the city has to offer in terms of affordable life and cultural scene, but I wouldn't actually say that here live the "most interesting" italian techno musicians or artists.

It's a matter of fact that many of them lived here for a while, but many others live in their homeland or in other foreign countries, making internationally valued works as well.

How much of your influence do you relate to Italy?

I would relate some part of it to Italy and my birthplace for sure. But to be honest I can't quantify it.

Tell  about your label EKAR records.

What is the policy of the label?

How label get promotion of artists?

Do you interact with the others label?

 Bos Nrc

Ekar is not an actual label. It’s a sharing-platform that allows my personal project Air Protection Office and some few close friends to publish their works, music and artworks.

It is something a bit out of the classic "label" idea.

For instance the promotion of the works is very small, like the money involved in the project. It's something made just for the main need of fulfilling a passion.

Every artist that is or will be part of the label agrees with this policy and is moved by the same motivations.

Ekar is very open-minded concerning collaborations with other labels or imputes from other music styles, and this is working good actually.

There are many ongoing works, collaborations with interesting artists and therefore we will be able to put out some new works.

Physical releases are one of the main future goals, but this will take time...anyway, who could predict such things!

Right now Ekar offers good music in any possible digital format for free.

  I'd love to thank Mauro Martinuz that through his "Transfer" mixing and mastering studio gives a huge technical support to this project.

Newly founded the label I began to follow it carefully and to listen with attention the first releases. So in October of last year I suggested Enrico to make a release trying to keep the spirit of Ekar and to stay on the same wavelength of the label. Inner Escape Interview with Fabrizio Lapiana (Attic Music)

Hallo, Fabrizio!

First as traditional question: How did you involved to club?

  Fabrizio Lapiana

I got involved in clubbing and electronic music very early. In 80's I loved different kind of music like from house to rap and new wave. I started to listen techno in 1991 and then I deduced that was my definitive favorite sound.

My first gig in a club as dj was in 1994. A club called "Castello" in Rome, a lot of people. At first was very beautiful but while I was DJing some people started to fight....so bad!

Can you tell about Italian club scene?

 How do you thinking, why most interesting techno musicians have Italian roots?

  Fabrizio Lapiana

Italy since the early 90's has given a lot to techno music. Probably had less than what has been given.

Even now many Italian artists are appreciated all over the world, and sometimes they are not at home.

Also with regard to the club scene I think it's a good period. There are different parties every week in major cities but also in the provinces, offering quality music and have a good following. Of course there is also a lot of trash around

What is the policy of the label? How label get promotion of artists? Do you interact with the other labels?

Usually in each release are my tracks plus one or two remixes of other artists that I particularly appreciate. Regarding the promotion, as mentioned above, K1971 takes care about it.

As I know, you also have another label.

 Why? Is it another "work just for commerce” or it your own “inner escape”, work to do something non commercial but very important for self-expression?

  Fabrizio Lapiana

Yes I launched last year Sustain Records.

  SUSTAIN rec. is a particular project. First of all, it differs from Attic for sound, softer and oriented to dub and downtempo. Also in this project so far, the music is the main thing: there are no artworks on vinyls, there are no info about artists or title of tracks. It will be so for Sustain03 too. After this trilogy something could be change.

Do you play on musician instruments?

I use some analog machines and some virtual machines, all in Ableton Live

How are you thinking about “principal DJ question of XXI century”, are vinil is really better than just digital release?

Fabrizio Lapiana

  Yes. Vinyl sounds better and warmer. Vinyl is better. It's not just an object, it's something to love and save.

What do you think about GEMA ? Have you analog system in Italy? Did they also something like this?

In Italy we have SIAE, that is worse than GEMA...

You have a lot of gigs. Can you tell about the clubs in different countries,  or may be a special teams where you like best?

Fabrizio Lapiana

I'm djing in great parties in different cities. But the place where I really have more fun is Alchemy in Rome,  I play there ofter so I perfectly know what to do, what to play and when to give fun to the people. It's a real interchange of energy.

How did your meet Roman Rubique Tell a little about your impress of Erfunden  party? Is it was your first visit to Moscow?

  Fabrizio Lapiana

I met Roman when He asked me a mix for his radio show in Moscow, Minimalistika. Later he asked me a mix for his podcast series, Erfunden, and booked me for his party at Plunk . Roman and all the crew are really nice people, Erfunden Party was great, I really enjoyed.

It was my first visit in Moscow, but I'll come back soon...

Maybe you have a little story how you came to the club scene?

  Yu Kawabata

I started DJ 5 years ago. I was an university student and went to club every weekend. One day, i met a very attractive DJ, he was so a vital and charismatic one, and organize nice parties. He induced me to be DJ, and became my coach. I joined many parties with him. Now we disbanded already, but i really appreciated him every time to invite the world of techno.

Can you tell about Japanese club scene? 

How often have your gigs outside Japan?

How did you meet the guys from do\nothing? Yu Kawabata

Sadly, lately hours of operation of clubs of Japan are controlled by law, in most cases we can't stay in clubs after am 1:00. Because of that i feel that the club scene in Japan is inactive...

I still have not done gigs overseas except for that fantastic trip to Moscow.

Until last year i was a member of DJ team "Noise Maker", its leader was he taught me DJ, and we made one podcast once a month. last April, Shup from do/nothing send me a joyful message. He listened my podcast on Soundcloud and offered to make a new one for do/nothing. It was really delighted invitation to the world, I accept gladly.

Tell me a little about DJ team "NoiseMaker". Are you not in the team now?

  Yu Kawabata 

 "NoiseMaker" made some good parties! We invited wonderful artists, Kate Simko, Audio Warner, Pan-Pot… and my respect Alex Smoke. We disbanded last year caused difference in outlook on music but still we respect each other.

Music that you play includes not only techno. What influenced your choice? Maybe someone in your family involved in music? Did you study at the School of Music? 

  Yu Kawabata

I've never studied music accurately, my parents made me attend a piano and violin school, but I didn't like there and i cut classes. And my major field of study was Hindi :)

But my mother loves various music, classic, rock, pop and electric... many and varied sounds were around me every time. She often took me to classic concerts. I didn't like play musical instrument, but liked to listening one's stage. Even now I'm always interested in every music.

Have you any connects with India, or you just studying Hindi at the university? Many brilliant DJ’s and musician love to travel to India and to live there 3 or 6 month in the year. Did you ever been in India? Yu Kawabata

Yes, I think India attract wonderful musicians. In fact, in spite of studying Hindi for several years. I graduated now. I wasn't able to fascinate with things Hindi. I've never been to India but want to trip to this marvelous country someday.

What plans do you have to 2013? Do you planning to visit Moscow soon? Yu Kawabata

I have decided to learn the way to make sounds and music in this year. I want to have my own works, not only mix.  And surely go to my most lovely city Moscow!!! The truth is, my first wish is studying in Moscow for long time ;)

As I know, you speak Russian a little.  How do you learn the Russian language, also from the University?

Yu Kawabata

I've been interested in Russia for long time! My grandfather and father had been to Russia.  From getting to know Nikita and Sergey, Russia is became fascinating more strongly, I started to study Russian by myself. At first, only by listening radio course of Russian. Now I plan to study much more and get licenses of Russian!

Due to trip to Moscow, I strongly take interested in Russian itself, including history, modern circumstances, art and living...especially Russian cuisine! I often make Russian food, above all

I want to eventually make music using raw sounds in future , my condition of being unskilled and I'm inexperienced still. First I am to learn to make techno i'm favorite.

Great movies supply the inspiration for me. For example Sergey Parajanov, Andrei Tarkovsky, Aleksandr Sokurov... by chance most of my favorite directors are Russian. I want to express with music the impressions and images of the adoration films.
