4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
I thought it’d be interesting to have a Dalish Crow that wasn’t very connected to her culture due to being abandoned young but didn’t want to be a Crow either, kind of being forced into this new “family” when she just wants to go back to her real one.
I was kind of playing with Veilguard making the Crows suddenly a benevolent force that cares about family and such by making it look a lot more sinister by having the older lore partially re-contextualize it and this mindset being forced onto someone who really doesn’t want to play along with it!
While i fully support Crow Rooks who love their job i thought it’d be a lot more interesting to have a Rook, Magpie in this case, who has very mixed feelings on Teia and Viago.
I also wanted to play with what if you had a Crow who just sucks. Zevran would say they die and he would be correct but what if you already poured so many resources into trying to elevate this Crow and bring out the potential she has that it’s become a sunk cost fallacy. That simply killing her would be a waste of a natural talent that is so obviously hidden behind all that stress and fear and you’ve spent so much money on trying to bring to the forefront.
Basically i accidentally made a torture nexus.
18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
I’ve been burnt out on Veilguard for months i think this is the most recent thing.. 😭
19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?
Magpie’s real name is actually an elven name that translates to Magpie in trade, the Crows just thought her elven name was too complicated to pronounce so they made her go by Magpie instead. When she gets together with Bellara she learns about it and starts using that instead :) and later when Davrin knows he joins in too.
