How did you become a fan of Les Mis?

My partner begged me for weeks to watch Les Mis 2012 with him. I didn't want to at all. I finally caved, I think because I made him watch Repo: the Genetic Opera, and we watched it together.

I didn't like it very much.

Somehow, despite that, it just kind of got caught on a nail in my brainspace. I went back and watched it again. And again. I watched the concerts and started the book and found the Les Mis fandom and all kinds of forums and before I know it I had four copies of the brick and could identify the translation by the first three lines.
