Someone stole around 500 books from the Inside Books Project, an Austin-based, volunteer-run organization dedicated to providing free reading materials to prisoners.
Inside Books Project offers a Resource Guide with helpful resources targeted to inmates and their loved ones. The entire IBP Resource Guide is included below both as a searchable online resource and in downloadable PDF form.
Inside Books Project sends this Resource Guide free of charge to any inmate in Texas. To request a Resource Guide, please send a request letter to the address below:

Bring your used books to MLA 2015! The Relevant Issues Section is organizing a book drive to benefit the Inside Books Project, an Austin-based organization that sends free books and educational materials to prisoners in Texas. A donation box will be at registration Thursday – Tuesday.

Spring Swap Meet
SATURDAY, MARCH 31 @ 1919 HEMPHILL
Clean out the closet and bring out the goods to 1919 Hemphill! All tastes welcome! It’s a swap meet, duh! Ideas for things to bring: Books Records, CDs, Audio Cassettes Comics Music collectibles (posters, patches, shirts, coozies, etc) VHS tapes DVDs Instruments/Equipment (amps, microphones, cables, picks, drums, etc) Clothes/Accessories Crafts Bicycle/Skateboard gear Art Plants if you’re not sure what you want to bring is appropriate, just ask!
Expect to share a table with 2 or 3 other people. If you want to advertise large items, I encourage you to take a picture to show instead of bringing it. As usual, our free store will be open for donations and we are accepting donations for the Inside Books Project, a program that sends books to Texas prison inmates. http://insidebooksproject.org/
Volunteering
is the greatest. It helps me when I am feeling shitty about myself, like earlier today. I volunteered tonight at Inside Books Project, which a wonderful organization that sends books to people in Texas prisons. Volunteering tonight really cheered me up, and made me realize how high I was on my horse. This sort of thing keeps me grounded and opens my eyes to others and their struggles. I really enjoyed it. I feel so much peace shifting through books, writing letters to the prisoners and trying to conduct the perfect package for someone. I highly recommend it to anyone!
Volunteering with the Inside Books Project
As a Literacy*AmeriCorps member I like to explore other literacy volunteer opportunities available in the community. This past Martin Luther King Day I joined other Literacy*AmeriCorps members and volunteered at the Inside Books Project. Inside Books Project is an Austin-based organization that promotes literacy and reading for incarcerated individuals. The project is self-described as " an all volunteer, non-profit organization sending free books and educational materials to people in prison in the state of Texas."
The aspect of education, for those in prison, is something I had not thought much about before. After reading the letters from inmates and hand choosing reading materials to mail to them, I feel that it is a cause that deserves support and recognition.
