3 Questions Related to Tile Installation & Their Answers – Part 1
When you are getting ready start your tile installation project for the first time, there are so many questions roaming across you mind. In the first part of this 2 blog series, we list three commonly asked questions related to tiling.
The aim of this series of blogs is to help you finish your first DIY tile installation project like a pro.
Question #1: Should Remove Existing Tiles, if I want to retile my bathroom and shower?
Answer: Technically, you should have a strong, durable and perfectly level surface to install your tiles. And if you notice that your existing bathroom and shower tiles do not meet any or all of these conditions, you should consider removing them completely.
But that’s not it; you will also need to prepare a good to go substrate and use a “suitable-for-bathroom” underlayment on it, to get started with tile installation.
But if they meet all these criteria, then you can tile over existing tiled surface.
Question #2: Some (or one) of the tiles on my floor cracked during installation. Should I remove it? Or Should I wait for the tiles to dry and fix it afterwards?
Answer – If it happens during installation, it would be advisable to replace it with a new tile (that’s why we recommend ordering 10% extra tiles, so your project doesn’t stop due to instances like that).
Waiting for the tiles to dry and fixing it after that is never recommendable.
Question #3: The glaze on some of my floor tiles is chipping from corner and center. Do they need a replacement?
Answer: Not necessarily. You can fix the cracking and chipping on glazed floor tiles by applying matching color enamel on it.
