construction notes

Jyn Erso pants

4 paneled high waisted pants with wide band with pleated detail at knees, black ski buckle and webbing

pattern suggestion: mccalls 7098  variant e

pattern modifications: 

widen the waistband

flip waistband tip to opposite side

extend tab of waistband to center seam of right leg

flip zipper to opposite side

ignore pockets

pattern additions:

8 pleated insert that starts under knee

horizontal insert for twill tape

fabric: black stretch denim

construction notes:

add in the insert with the pintucks when you have felled all of the seams. mathematically pattern out the spacing on the pintucks so they are even or really close to even. ideally you want them to taper down to the ankle of your pants for that thinner fit. be sure to have precisely eight of them for legion approval.

account that adding in this piece will slightly alter the overall fit of your pants. the hem of your pants should hit at the top of your boots. ideally the insert piece begins right under your knee. 

use suede pieces,or puffy paint the khaki detailing i used a puffy paint base then hand embroidered them.

weathering: use sandpaper to roughen up the seams of the pants and notably the knee areas.

rip out individual threads following the weave of the pattern to create white runs.

I absolutely love Glyn Dillion’s work! The Rebels and even Jyn have such nice, utilitarian, salvaged army gear look that is visually beautiful to look at.  

This is another one of the costumes that I have really wanted ever since seeing the movie on the opening week two years ago. The “concho” is drafted and draped by hand, as are the hat and the bag. I’ve been working on this costume for so long, I’m glad to have finally finished and be approved to wear it at troops.
