As some of you (most of you??) know, I'm a type one diabetic. There's a reason that The Pitt has become a favorite of mine, and one of those is the accurate portrayal of how difficult it is to get access to life saving medication.
A new bill has been introduced called the INSULIN Act. In summary, it will:
~ Cap monthly out-of-pocket costs for insulin for those with group and individual market health plans
~ Require pharmacy benefit managers to pass through 100% of insulin rebates and discounts to plan sponsors, which would help people in the form of reduced premiums
~ Launch a pilot program in 10 states to provide uninsured individuals with insulin for $35 per month.
~ Establish an insulin resource center and hotline for uninsured individuals to help them secure insulin.
I have paid anywhere from $20-$500 for a bottle of insulin that at best last two weeks. Saying that this bill could help people is an understatement. It will literally change people's lives and provide more affordable access to everyone.
Please, please, please consider signing it and spreading the word.
