Today I went for glucose tolerance and insulin resistance tests. This is to determine if I have diabetes. The way the test goes is that after fasting for 8 hours, my blood got tested. Then I drank a big glass of water mixed with 75 grams of pure sugar. After two hours, my blood got tested again. The nurse told me that if I get sick, nauseous or dizzy after drinking the syrup, I should go in straight away. I thought that to be ridiculous and I couldn’t see any reason for me getting sick. Surely it’s not because of the 8 hours of fasting, right? I mean, I did much more and I was fine. But after around 20 minutes the sugar started to kick in and boy it’s unpleasant! I didn’t faint or throw up but I was trying extremely hard to distract myself from the horrible sensation. The room I was waiting in was also serving as a waiting room for the children’s stomatologist. So at least, I was watching the little children release the full mode drama after exiting the dental office. Vacations, toys, sweets and park trips were promised but all in vain.
