"--Anyway, my mother hasn't spoken to me since I got first runner up at Miss America, so things have been awkward at home," Presley explains.
Luckily she lived in the guest house, but family dinners had been...something.
"Is it bad that I've thought about going Tonya Harding on her? Not my mom -- Miss Texas, who won."

“You know, one of these days I’m going to be asked if I’m the little sister because all of you just are taller and bigger and look older and I’m stuck with this baby face.”

“Okay so... I’m guessing you’re not Ben because I don’t think Ben would have grown boobs and dyed his hair blonde. Although, if I’m going to be honest, I like this look a lot more.”

Lucy stared out into the ocean and the extremely ominous grey clouds over her head. It was raining just a few minutes before and the water soaked her clothes, but Lucy just continued to watch the waves crash harder and harder against the shore as she mindlessly ran her fingers through the wet sand, a safe distance away from the water. On a normal day, she would be at the waters edged, normal clothes or bathing suit, it didn’t matter to her. Yet for once in her life, she was staying on the sand where it was safe and letting the wind blow through her wet hair. Even if she couldn’t be in the water, she still felt the power of the waves from her spot and that was good enough for her.Â

Lucy hated hospitals, not because they were great places that saved people’s lives. It was just that when she was here, she felt weak. She didn’t mind having people help patch her up from the stupid shit that she pulled from time to time on the waves (and right now, it was not time for stupid shit on the waves because of the power and height of some of the waves that were rolling in because of the storm), but it just felt like she couldn’t handle the pain and the hurt that she did to herself. (If she got into an accident and was hurt by someone else, that would be a totally different story) And maybe the nurses fretting over her many scars that could have healed properly if she actually went to the hospital like the many times people have told her she wouldn’t have as many. But her scars reminded her she was strong and she could get through it, plus many faded over time anyway.Â
She heard the door open from behind her and she pulled on her shirt. “Good, you’re here. Let’s go. I don’t need to stay here any longer.”
