Join Andropogon's Lauren Mandel this THURSDAY at the University of Rhode Island to discuss "Craft, Research, and Practice: Performance-Based Design in Landscape Architecture." Lauren will be speaking as part of the URI Landscape Architecture Lectures. (Landscape performance research in the urban rain gardens of Philadelphia, above.)
A pipeline was laid through Loantaka Brook Reservation in Morris County, NJ, in 1986. Andropogon was part of this effort to minimize the destruction in this sensitive area (see the vintage “Habitat Protection Measures” drawing above). Our integrative research team returned to the site 30 years later to see how the site has fared following the minimally invasive construction techniques and innovative ecological restoration strategies used there. A great article talking about “design experiments” and the need for landscape architects and designers to investigate what actually works in our designed spaces. Andropogon is engaging in such “design experiments” with projects like Shoemaker Green at U Penn and work at Drexel University.
