For the last three days, Cain had been completely and utterly alone. After the attack, everyone had taken off. He could remember being inside. There was a fire and he thought he’d seen his Danny out the window. She was looking for him, he could tell by the look on her face but she got pulled away by someone else. Thank god they stopped her from running back in. But he’d made it out and now he was alone. His crossbow hung low on his back and his knife was balanced perfectly in his hand. Cain’s eyes scanned the ground slowly. He’d tried to leave in the same direction he thought Danny had gone in. Tried to keep on her trail but now he had no way of telling if the prints he was following where her’s or some walker with the same boots.
His heart ached. How could one person need another so completely? He’d never felt like this before. So worried he felt like he might vomit. So worked up he couldn’t manage to get a moment of sleep. Yet Cain’s bones ached. Every step was a struggle but it was worth it. Whatever he was following, he was getting closer. The forest was thick and he’d hunted in it a million times for his pack. A pack that was scattered to the wind now. God only when were Adam and Asher were. Their Omegas. Cain had made sure there baby, Kit, had made it out but then they all got lost.
Struggling.
His head snapped up at the sound of someone fighting off... Well it sounded like a walker. He heard teeth chatter. Heard someone pant and yell. The face that the sound was higher pitched made Cain’s heart jump into his throat. He bolted forwards with knew energy. “Danny!” Cain yelled her name in the hopes to draw whatever was attacking off of her. He saw it. The walker, and his Danny. Struggling. Fighting it off better than he ever could have hoped. Pride swelled in him as he planted his feet and sunk his knife deep in the walkers head. The things sounds cut off quick and it fell away just as Cain’s arms fell around Danny. Drawing her in as his head dipped down to her shoulder. His chest heaving as he hugged her tightly.
