Location: Davenport Manor Closed for: Jessie Davenport
As much as Sammy trusted Mal, he was a Davenport after all, he needed to see Jessie with his own eyes. Make sure that she was alive. Here her voice. Put his own eyes on her. Maybe it was silly but the idea of her being gone had gotten lodged in his head. As if a recording of her being blown up was on a broken loop in, his mind couldn’t truly focus on anything else. The bar was a good distraction but it wasn’t enough to shake this feeling Sammy had gotten in his gut.
He felt heavy, weighed down by a horrible sense of loss. One that hadn’t actually taken place. Losing Jessie- He’d never really thought about it. Partly because the mention of such a thing felt so unexplainably horrible and partly because they’d never had to. Not really. Sammy had always assumed he would simply die before she ever got close to it. Which, really, is what he still hoped for.
Jessie was just about the only person who was consistent in Sammy’s life. His birth parents were a joke. His step-mother was good but had her own problems. Jasper was constantly in and out. Not ever someone to count on. Jessie was good. Not only that but she knew who Sammy was and didn’t care. She never batted an eye at his out bursts good or bad. Manic or depressive she was there. Always there.
Anything that threatened to take that away from him wasn’t welcome. Sammy had always dealt with such threats swiftly and efficiently. However, the thought of the explosion being an issue hadn’t even crossed his mind.
Pushing open the heavy front door, Sammy’s eyes darted around the entrance. “Jessie?” He called into the house. It was early morning but most people here didn’t sleep. Nor did he care if he woke anyone up. “Jessie!” He called her name again as he kicked his boots off, a slight panic raising in his voice now. “Where are you?” He mumbled to himself as he started upstairs towards her bedroom. “Jessie?”
