Tma means “transmisogyny-affected”. It generally refers to people who are transfemme, both trans women and amab nonbinary people, to refer to the way that transmisogyny materially affects their lives.
Tme means “transmisogyny-exempt,” and refers to everyone who is not transfemme, so cis women, cis men, trans men, and afab nonbinary people. However, many people use this to refer exclusively to transmascs, using it to say that since this form of oppression does not affect them, they do not have a right to talk about relevant tran issues.
One of the criticisms of this framework is that many people who are not transfemmes are subjected to heavy amounts of transmisogny, such as cis women of color with radicalized features that are considered “masculine” and therefore get investigated to “prove” they’re secretly trans, intersex people, and gender non-conforming transmasc who have features that are considered both “masculine” and “feminine,” because transphobes don’t actually care what genitals you have and proving that you’re transmasc or cis or intersex instead of transfemme won’t save you from transmisogynistic. Besides this, it forcibly separates nonbinary people into categories based on their agab and doesn’t account for transneutral people or nonbinary people whose identity closely aligns with their assigned gender, just slightly different. It also doesn’t account for the way afab trans people are subjected to a different intersection of transphobia and misogyny than transfemmes, because transphobes see them as women, regardless of their identity, and therefore treat them as such. With all the misogyny that comes with being perceived as a woman.
