‘ i guess it runs in the family, huh? ’ - from STEFAN SALVATORE.

Hayley chuckled softly her gaze still on her daughter who had just bitten the vampire in front of her. A nibble really - nothing too serious. And she'd reprimanded the tribrid for it, which only caused her daughter to huff and bury her face into Hayley's neck.

"I guess she is," the hybrid shook her head. "Sorry about that. She's not usually a biter..." Hayley added sheepishly. "Hope isn't really used to strangers. We don't get visitors often." Which is mostly their doing considering how many people are always trying to come after the family.

"But now that this mess is out of the way for the moment - thanks for you help by the way - how are things on your end?"

The air here didn’t move—not like it did in the living world. Hayley had stopped trying to make sense of it. The afterlife wasn’t meant to be understood. It was meant to be felt.

She walked slowly through the clearing, boots brushing against grass that never grew or died. The trees were familiar, but not quite Like echoes of the Bayou, twisted through memory. She’d seen faces here—some she loved some she’d lost. Some she wasn’t ready to face. But today…today was different.

She felt him before she saw him. A presence that didn’t belong to this place, not fully. Hayley stopped, tilting her head to the side when she saw the dark-haired man.

He was sitting beneath a tree, back straight, gaze distant. She knew that profile. Hadn’t seen it in years of course. Not since Hope was still a toddler. “Stefan Salvatore,” she said, voice low.

Hayley watched his head turn, and for a moment, the silence between them felt heavy. “I didn’t expect to see you here,” she admitted. “Then again, I didn’t expect to be here either.”

Hayley crossed her arms, not defensively, but out of habit. The kind you apparently carry even after death. “I heard you died saving your brother…” she offered.

“Let me guess—you’re the brooding one.” Hayley leaned against the bar, one brow raised as she studied Stefan with a casual glance. “You’ve got that whole tortured soul thing down to an art form. Is it natural, or do you rehearse in front of a mirror?”

She wasn’t trying to provoke—well, maybe a little. But mostly she was curious. Stefan had a reputation, and Hayley had learned to trust reputations about as far as she could throw them.

“Relax. I’m not here to stir up trouble. Just passing through. But it’s hard not to notice when someone walks into a room like they’re carrying the weight of a century on their shoulders.”

A pause. Then, with a faint smirk: “If you’re going to glower at the world, at least have a drink in your hand. Makes it look less tragic.”
