Closed starter: Silas ( @ritualove ) Location: the streets of Cardinal Hill
Laying the map of Cardinal Hill out in front of him on his dining room table, Brook didn't doubt that this was what he wanted to do. If you'd asked him even an hour ago if he'd use magic again, the answer would have been a firm no, but so much had changed since that mysterious phone call. Brook had shouted for Silas, asking him if he was okay, where he was, etc, but Silas hadn't replied, and Brook had been able to tell that the call hadn't disconnected. So to Brook, that meant one of two things: that Silas had lost consciousness, or - no. Brook couldn't think about the alternative. How cruel would fate have to be to take Silas away when they were just getting started? But Brook knew firsthand that fate had a twisted sense of humor sometimes. Fucker, he thought, yes, cursing fate itself.
Brook was glad he had this map. He'd bought it when he first moved here to help get his bearings, but now it would serve an even more important purpose. Though it had been awhile since he used this kind of magic, Brook recalled a locator spell he'd been taught, and he sat in front of the map, placing his hands on it and closing his eyes. For a moment, he cleared his mind, but then Brook muttered the incantation, his voice low. Magic for him was like riding a bike - he would never forget how to channel his power. Immediately he felt a charge, power coursing through him, giving Brook a taste of that dangerous rush that was such a slippery slope. Brook felt almost euphoric, using magic again giving him a sense of tranquility, of familiarity; it felt like coming home. Why had he stopped doing this? What was the harm? Magic could make his life so much easier. There was so much he could do with it; there were no limits when it came to this kind of power.
Eyes snapping open, Brook pushed himself back from the table and the map. That kind of thinking, the way it was so easy for him to fall into it, that was why he had stopped. It was like an addiction, and now that he had gotten a fix, Brook was already itching to use magic again. That was something he would contend with later though. Right now, his focus was on finding Silas. Looking at the map, Brook saw a tiny glow on what he knew had to be Silas's location. 30 seconds later, Brook was in his car and rushing in that direction, only one thought on his mind: to get to Silas. Would he still be there? Had the spell worked? He could only hope.
When he got to the location the spell had indicated, Brook breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Silas lying there on the ground. But that relief was short-lived because Silas was lying there on the ground, and he wasn't moving. "Fuck!" he shouted, parking crookedly on the street and rushing out of his car, his door hanging open. Brook ran to Silas, kneeling down and patting taking him into his arms, Silas's head on Brook's lap. "Silas, wake up," Brook said gently. He felt his pulse, relieved to feel one, and he reached for the hanging receiver of the payphone and hung it up before dialing 911. He could barely reach the numbers, but Brook wasn't letting go of Silas. He told the operator where they were, and then he shifted his attention back to Silas. "You're going to be okay," he whispered, his hand on Silas's cheek, and then without hesitation he said a few words, an incantation, one meant to give channel his energy through the hand on Silas's cheek and give him strength. Brook felt the power course through him again, knowing it would make this even harder, but he didn't care because Silas was worth it. "Please wake up," Brook said, surprised to feel tears on his cheeks.
