it wasn’t often that daniel let people see him like this. it was part of the reason he stayed home all the time, part of the reason he didn’t want people to get close. he didn’t want them see his him shaking and crying for no reason at all. he didn’t want them to see how weak he was. but they had seen him, and stayed, and held him until he could breathe again. he hid his face in their chest, actually feeling okay as he listened to their heartbeat. “can i just stay in here with you forever? can i?”

he kind of always knew it was coming to this, and he thought elijah did it too. they did their best to hide it, to ignore it, but there was something between them. one lunch together turned to two and three and then weeks of meeting secretly. as friends. it was a lie and they both knew it. but tonight, daniel was tired of pretending. he knew what he wanted to do is wrong, but it’s not like his boyfriend treated him right. and besides, elijah was sitting on the couch next to him, so close and kind and beatiful— “oh, fuck it,” he muttered. daniel turned and straddled his friend’s lap, hands cupping his face before pulling him into a heated kiss. and god, it was just as good as he imagined. he just prayed that elijah kissed him back.

"You aren’t scared of flying, are you?” Daniel asked his girlfriend as the limo made its way towards the airport. He wanted to surprise her with a week at his family’s home in Cannes. It was gorgeous this time of year, and he figured a vacation was called for before the summer was over. He hadn’t told her what he was up to yet, wanting to see her reaction when she realized where they were going.

Daniel was in the middle of preparing dinner when he heard the front door of his house open. He knew immediately it was Rory. His husband was the only other person who lived there, after all. Besides, he’d come to recognized the sound of the other man’s footsteps. “Mon amour” he said, calling his husband by the pet name that was popular in his father’s native tongue. He stood on his toes to kiss the taller man on the lips. “How was your day?” He knew Rory’s job could be stressful, even on the best days. Which is why he tried to make sure his husband was happy and comfortable from the moment he stepped into their home.

“Look, I’ll just go, okay?” Daniel had such high hopes for tonight. For once he’s actually gotten out of the house, he’s gone to a friend’s house, to a party! Daniel Yost, perpetually anxious, is at a party. And it’s awful.

“Your friends think I’m weird, I’m not having fun, you’re uncomfortable...” His gaze has dropped to the other’s shoes. His own are shuffling nervously. “I’ll go and you can all talk about how much I s u c k and then I’ll come back tomorrow for the dish I brought the pasta in.” Maybe that had been his first mistake, bringing pesto to a party with teenagers.
