a summer afternoon || flashback

The age-old adage went that opposites attracted. That dark would find light, or some other drivel like that. But this did not apply to Amycus Carrow and Rodolphus Lestrange. Their lives mirrored one another's. Two golden sons, the eldest of their respective families, whose decisions would shape the legacy of their bloodline for better or for worse. While Amycus was younger, he understood what Rodolphus felt regarding that burden. Amycus had never been shy about the political expectations set on his shoulders since birth. Their similar circumstance had drawn them together since childhood. Their families had encouraged such a friendship, as they were born to lead.
Ever since Amycus’s parents had sent him to Durmstrang for his education, Rodolphus saw him less and less. Returning home for brief holidays from Hogwarts was simple enough, considering its relatively short distance, compared to Durmstrang’s remote Scandinavian location. Rodolphus flourished to lead in the absence that Amycus left during the majority of the year, but he welcomed Amycus’s return by his side during the holidays. Now it felt as if he recognized Amycus less and less each time the two saw one another. He watched Amycus from the other side of the chess board. It was summer and the heat outside was sweltering. While other boys their age saw fit to spend their holidays outside, both he and Amycus were content to play wizard chess in the comfort of the Carrow manor. Rodolphus tapped his fingers against the armrest, waiting for his partner's next move. "Oh for fuck's sake, please do something," Rodolphus sighed with a roll of his eyes. "I'm not getting any younger here."
