Shamima Begum and Hoda Muthana are products of their own societies—they can’t just be disowned.
This is a very compelling moral argument, but there's a legal one as well -- any time you make it easier to strip someone's rights, no matter how reprehensible they are or how much you wish to forswear them, you make it easier to strip everyone's rights. Citizenship is one of international law's most important rights. It should not be easy to lose.
