“Boiling Rock, Part II”:
Zuko: (turns towards Sokka) What? Sokka: What? Oh, I didn't say anything. You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons. Zuko: No kidding. Sokka: Yep. A balloon. But for War. Zuko: There's one thing my Dad's good at, (turns back to the tank and firebends) it's War. Sokka: (nonchalantly) Yeah, it seems to run in the family. Zuko: Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my family is like that. Sokka: I know, I know, you've changed. Zuko: I meant my Uncle. He was more of a Father (Cut to Zuko who looks saddened) to me. And I really let him down.
I think maybe this is some of the better evidence of Zuko’s dissatisfaction with the more militaristic aspects of Fire Nation culture. On the other hand, you could argue he seems more defensive about his family/uncle being more complex than they appear than he is agree or regretful of the militaristic aspect. You could maybe also make a case that his distaste for war in part stems from his deification of the “pacifist” Iroh as a model in general, but that feels like a stretch. In any case, the amazing thing is that Zuko perceives Iroh, “The Dragon of the West,” as peaceful and not associated with war or even “good at” it.
i just want to imagine the introductory scene of Sakharine when he tries to buy the ship from Tintin but instead Snowy senses something wrong and tries to snap at the former’s clothes and growl at him and Tintin just gets annoyed whilst Sakharine has to pretend to be completely casual in his irritation that this dog won’t get off of him
